Ferry Freight Booking

For trucks, trailers, vans, and commercial vehicles needing ferry transport across U.S. coastal corridors.

Some coastal routes in the United States are served by vehicle ferries: short-sea crossings to islands along the Gulf Coast, and routes along the Pacific Northwest and into Southeast Alaska where communities have no road connection. When a truck, trailer, van or commercial vehicle has to cross on one of those routes, we arrange the space.

Ferries Freight arranges transportation through licensed carriers and vessel operators. We don't own or operate vessels; we find the sailing that fits your cargo and dates and set up the booking with the operator.

  • Driver-accompanied freight
  • Unaccompanied trailers
  • Recurring shipments

Accompanied or unaccompanied

On some crossings a driver travels with the vehicle and drives it off at the other end. On others, a trailer can be dropped at the terminal, carried unaccompanied and collected at the destination by another driver. Which is possible depends on the route and the operator.

Unaccompanied freight saves a driver's time, but it needs someone ready to collect it on arrival. Tell us which you prefer, and we check what the route allows.

What we need to book space

Ferries sell deck space by length and limit height and weight. To check whether a vehicle fits and what it will cost, we need the overall length of the vehicle or the tractor and trailer together, the height, the gross weight and what the cargo is.

Dangerous goods change what a ferry can accept, and some sailings take none at all. Declare them when you request a quote so the review starts with the right options.

When a ferry isn't the answer

Hawaii and Puerto Rico have no freight ferry from the mainland; cargo goes on RoRo ships, container ships or barges. Very heavy or oversized loads may also be better on a barge than on a ferry. If a ferry doesn't fit your shipment, we say so and look at the alternatives.

How a quote request works

  1. Step 1: Send the details

Origin and destination, what the cargo is, its dimensions and weight, and your sailing window.

  2. Step 2: We review the options

We check which ferry, RoRo or barge services and port pairs fit your cargo and dates.

  3. Step 3: You get a quote

The quote lists the sailing options and what each one includes.

  4. Step 4: We arrange the booking

We book the option you choose with the carrier and tell you which documents it needs.
